Pegasus Chairman Mehmet Nane Introduces the English Edition of “Words I Owe”

Pegasus Airlines Chairman Mehmet Nane introduced the English edition of his book “Size Anlatacaklarım Var,” published as “Words I Owe,” at an event in London.

Bringing many firsts and milestones into his 36-year career, Pegasus Airlines Chairman Mehmet Tevfik Nane met with readers at DasDas Box London for the launch of the English version of his book “Words I Owe.” Published by Hümanist Kitap, the launch event featured an on-stage conversation with journalist Mark Middlemass. Nane later signed books for readers and answered their questions.

Speaking to Ergin Balabeyoglu from BYTV, Mehmet Nane shared his life experiences, leadership approach, and his views on current developments in the aviation sector.

Nane stated that he built the theme of the book around the idea that “life is a journey,” adding that the most challenging parts to write were his mistakes and the lessons he learned from them. He emphasized that one should draw energy from life’s descents and use it on the way up, noting that the key to success is learning from mistakes and avoiding repeating them.

“EQ is now the true differentiator”

Highlighting that emotional intelligence (EQ) is becoming increasingly important not only in aviation but across all sectors, Nane said, “IQ has reached a certain maturity with artificial intelligence. What will make the difference is EQ, the ability to connect with people.” He underlined that teams who can use technology effectively while also maintaining strong human relationships will be the ones who succeed.

Addressing one of the prominent themes of the book — the ability to say “no” — Nane explained that this skill develops over time through experience and challenges. “When you say yes to two people at the same time, one of them will inevitably be disadvantaged. Saying no is essential to staying true to the commitments you make,” he said.

From the Book to Aviation: Pages Opening Toward the Sky

In “Words I Owe,” Mehmet T. Nane also shares in detail the turning point in his career when he entered the aviation sector. Having previously held executive roles at major retail companies such as Teknosa and Carrefoursa, Nane describes his transition to Pegasus as “moving from the shopping cart to the flight cabin.”
